GCSE Results 2010

Ian Sanders, Head teacher, says:

Sustained Outstanding Performance

These tremendous results represent yet another year of outstanding exam performance, improving on the best ever results obtained this time last year. The now statutory figure of 5A* - C grades including English and Maths stands at 63% - the highest figure ever on results day. We are also very proud that 99% of our students gained 5+ A – G grades; reflecting the inclusive approach we have to all students, regardless of their ability. The number of top grades saw a massive increase with A and A* grades amounting to almost a third of the total GCSE grades gained. This represents a 5% increase on the 2009 figure.

It has taken a real team effort and relentless determination to bring about these results. No stone is left unturned in our efforts to provide the best possible education for all of our students – we are very proud of our track record and these results exhibit the ability of the school to sustain an outstanding level of performance year on year.

We set very aspirational targets for our students and many of them do even better than might be expected, given their prior attainment on entering the school, with students in some instances exceeding the challenging targets that were set for them. There were a number of outstanding individual performances worthy of special mention, these include:

Caroline Hayes 9 A*
Jack Evans 7 A* 4 A grades
Amy Leppanen 7 A* 2 A,1 C grades
Emily Southern 7 A* 1 B grades
Chloe Chetwood 6 A* 4 A,1 B grades
Georgina Thompson 6 A* 4 A,1 B,1 C grades
Ben Hunter 6 A* 3 A,2 B,2 C grades
Phillip MacDonald 5 A* 5 A,1 B grades
Kay Evans 5 A* 4 A grades
Annie Theedom 5 A* 4 A,1 C grades
Megan Gocher 5 A* 4 A,2 B,1 C grades
Charlotte Gatt 5 A* 4 A,3 B grades

In addition to all of this twenty students (the largest number ever) in Year 11 also gained an As level in Critical Thinking. We are always keen to provide for students across the ability range, including our gifted and talented students, and facilitating the opportunity to complete and As level one year earlier than expected is just one way in which we do so. One Year 11 student also gained an A level in French – an impressive achievement!

Our congratulations go to all the students whose hard work is being rewarded today. As always, their well-deserved success is the result of their commitment to study and determination throughout their years at Lakelands. In addition to this, the unwavering support from families and the unique level of dedication of the Lakelands School teacher and support staff are the critical factors for equipping our students with the qualifications and life skills they need to follow their chosen career path.

I know I speak for the whole school when I wish the ‘Class of 2010’ all the very best for the future.
